Double Trouble

Today was a blast and I would venture to say that it was the highlight of David's vacation. I will just start with the morning and work my way throughout the day so that you can get the full picture.

This morning David joined me to pick my dad up from his hotel and bring him over to our house. The first sign that it was a great day for David was the fact that it was raining and he was able to wear his rain coat and rain boots.

Rain boots = I can jump in puddles

We arrived at the hotel, David got to push some buttons and repeatedly tell me and the other elevator occupant, "We do not touch those buttons because they are emergency."

David was SO happy to see grandpa and the fact that he received presents in the form of two cars, one bus, and a huge monster truck just sent him over the top. But that wasn't all! Back at home David made cookies with grandpa, played cars with him, made music on the guitar...it was a great morning and David was very upset to see grandpa go.

His day was not over yet, though. After lunch and a nap, we left to pick Z up from daycare. I made the mistake of putting on his regular shoes because the rain had stopped and I hoped he would follow the rule of:

No rain boots = I cannot jump in puddles

However, this rule was forgotten and we had to make a trip back to the house to change very muddy shoes and pants. Yuck.

We picked up Z and I wish I had a video camera for the rest of the day because those two were simply the most adorable pair I have ever seen. Z's daily report from daycare read, "All day today Z kept talking about someone named David and explained what they will be doing."

It is so fun to listen to them have short conversations with each other:

D: "Z, can I hold your hand please?"
Z: "Yes, David."

(holding hands all the way to the car and while sitting in the car)

D: "It's so nice to see you, Z."
Z: (smiling ear to ear) "Thank you."

D: "KaPOW"
Z: (laughing hysterically) "David you CRAZY!"

We had to take Z to get some blood work done and they were both so well behaved and easy. They sat and ate snack, read books, and just talked while we waited our turn. I laughed and thought of old times when people asked me, "Are they twins?" and then got to enjoy their response when I told them, "No, they are two months apart." It was great!

Then it was finally Z's turn. She was obviously not the happiest of campers, but what was most entertaining was watching David's reaction. As soon as she started crying, he broke out into SOBS...you would have thought someone was sticking him with the needle! The poor lady drawing the blood got an ear full from the both of them:).

Back at home they both played while I made dinner...they painted, danced, and fought a little. I realized that I have it easy with David....Z has amazing fine motor skills and at one point I walked into the room and she had opened a container of bubbles that David proceeded to spill all over the floor. Fun times!

Silly faces during dinner...splashing during bath time....snuggles while reading books and saying goodnight...it was wonderful.

Both kids were in bed and asleep by 7:30pm.

Now that is what a call a good day.

  2. I feel the same about you, Mary Kay! Lee told me about your conversation yesterday...you gave an amazing gift to your son's mom. I will pray that your actions teach her about those 'white jelly beans'- the grace that we do not deserve, but so desperately need.
