Before I continue Jaqueline and Ashley's story, I want to take a little break and share about our dear sweet son, David. What a character he is!
And pretty adorable if I do say so myself:)
God has used David to teach me about sacrifice. Not the typical 'sacrifice' that kids naturally teach their parents like sacrificing my time or my own personal interests in order to take care of him... So far, he has given me the clearest glimpse into what it is like to love someone unconditionally and then let them go, trusting God to watch over them and keep them safe.
David joined our family when he was just three months old. At about 18 months, he was about to be reunified with his birth mom. It had been the goal, it had been our goal, it had been what God called us to do - help to heal families. It hurt more than anything I had ever experienced, but God taught me so much through that pain. We were constantly reminded that David was not our child, but God's child, and that reminded us to cherish every moment that we had with him.
David's mom made that ultimate sacrifice out of love and asked us to adopt him. I cannot tell you how much I admire her for that.
So today we are much closer to the finalization of David's adoption. Just a few more months! It is easy to get impatient since it has been so long, but God is faithful to remind me again and again that David is a gift and finalization or not...we are blessed to have him in our lives for however long God allows.
He brings us so much joy!
