Hungry

"The kind of fasting I want is this: Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice and let the oppressed go free. Share your food with the hungry and open your home to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives." Isaiah 58: 6-7

A dear friend of mine began a ministry about 5 months ago. She felt a burden for the immigrant families in our community and began to make and distribute lunches every Tuesday afternoon. I believe they began with 40 lunches and are now passing out over 100!

Today, David and I had the privilege of joining her and her family in putting these lunches together and passing them out to the men, women, and children in our neighborhood. Although he was tired, David was ready to be an active participant ("Can I help?). He counted out lunches and handed them to us to share with others.

What an amazing experience. She and her family provided such a wonderful example to me of the true meaning of the verses above. While stuffing bags with popcorn, I listened to her mom share memories of her children - the love and pride she has for her family is contagious! Not only is this a family who shares food with the hungry, gives clothing to families who have none, but they also deeply care about and support each other. In addition, they are also opening their home to a young woman in foster care. Wow! Do you think they have it all covered?:)

Please join me in praying that God equips their family to help this young lady to heal from her past traumas. Pray that they become a part of removing the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice in order to free this young woman from the pain she must be experiencing.

"Then my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side. When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond." Isaiah 58:8-9
