Tuesday. We visited Z. and it was amazing to see how much she has grown! She looks so much taller and tanned from her time in the sun by the pool. She and David played happily together for about an hour and then it was time to say goodbye. David happily opened the door and ran down the hall while Z. wrapped her arms and legs around me. She put her head on my shoulder and had that look of concern on her face. Usually very talkative, she was quiet.
"We will be seeing you again soon, Z. You are going on a trip with your mommy and when you come back we will celebrate your birthday!"
She tried hard not to cry, but the tears came as she reached out to me. I gave her another kiss and followed David to the elevator. She'll be fine, but those goodbyes get me every time.
Monday (today). We brought N. home after a weekend at our house. He was just beginning to get clingy with me after a few days of caring less whether or not he was in a room filled with people or no one at all. It was a good sign that he was attaching, but bad timing to say goodbye. He reached out for his foster mom and then reached back for me. I pray that he re-attaches quickly to his foster mommy and that he doesn't have to leave her for a while.
This time David cried when we left. "I'm sad to leave N. at his house."
Later today, David was talking more about him and I asked if he wanted me to pray for him and N. David said yes and after my prayer, said, "Thank you, mommy, for praying for me to not be sad about N. going back to his house."
Tonight, during bedtime prayers, I asked David if he wanted to pray for anything. What did he request? "I want to pray for N."
What an amazing heart my son has. I pray that he always remains sensitive and compassionate towards others.
