Dream

I had a dream last night and to be honest, it caught me a little off guard. Do you know those dreams that are so vivid, it is almost as if they are real?
-------

It is July. Soon it will be one year ago from the day that Jaqueline and Ashley joined our family. This heat reminds me of that time.

I remember Ashley's damp curls that told me we had probably spent too much time outside.

I remember all of us squeezing into my car...one of us always sitting in the back watching Ashley drink her bottle or play with her little picture book.

I remember taking Jaqueline shopping to buy some summer outfits because she only had long-sleeved shirts.

I remember how quiet she was on her first day here. She was unsure and nervous- I could tell. Ashley, on the other hand, explored her new surroundings without hesitation.

I remember the songs Jaqueline found on youtube and played for Ashley: Los Pollitos, Pin Pon, Abuelito Dime Tu, etc. David remembers these too and recently asked for them. He can sing some of them on his own now.
------

Last night, in my dream, Lee and I were walking in our neighborhood and found Jaqueline waiting for a bus. We sat and talked. She missed the bus and came home with us. I was so happy to have her home! Jaqueline, Lee, and David were sitting in a room watching television. I was doing laundry or something and looked at them through the doorway. I saw Ashley sitting on the chair with Jaqueline. Even in my dream I thought I was seeing things and did a double take. I quietly approached and felt to see if she was really there...she was, but wasn't. Dream over.

I'm not sure what the meaning of that dream was, but it has been hard to shake the feeling it gave me. Lee was thinking of Jaqueline today as well. We called her and left her a message.
