David and Anthony go to a school where a majority of the teachers are women and four or five of those teachers usually end up pregnant by the end of the school. As a consequence, David and Anthony have started asking questions...
"How do the babies come out?"
"How did the babies get in there?"
I wanted to be prepared so I bought this book a while ago, but it is for boys ages 7-9!
While I am going to have to hold on to it for a little while longer, I wanted to write about it and recommend it for families who have adopted.
Why? Because on the SECOND page of the book, there is this description of a family:
"Families are always changing. They change in different ways. A family grows larger whenever a baby is born or a child is adopted. And people in the family are always growing older, and the babies are always growing bigger."
Adoption is included so naturally!
Then on the fourth page the main character asked what 'adopted' means and his parents explain:
"It means that they decided to make him their own child. They love him as much as if he were born to them."
It goes on to say that families are different, but that in some important ways we are all the same: We are all people
- loved by God
- living together
- loving each other
- celebrating good times together
- helping each other through bad times, and
- caring about what happens to each other
Yes, this book was definitely a good find!
