Sharing Mommy

Over the past five years, David has really amazed us with his care and concern for the children who join our family and his overall lack of jealousy. He's shared his favorite toys...his bedroom...his clothes...everything.

Lately, though, he has been struggling with feeling jealous. He becomes sad and clearly tells me, "Mommy, I am jealous of (A) because ___." We're so proud of him for being so aware of his feelings and being able to share them with us.

Anyway, I was reading the narrative (3 page report about his skills in all developmental domains) written by his teachers before Parent/Teacher Conferences and came across an example they included of his ability to empathize with others:

One morning, a little girl was sad that her mom could not attend a classroom event and in order to cheer her up, David offered, "I can share my mommy with you."

I smiled. That's my David....that's the son God gave us....a sweet, loving boy who is also called to be the amazing foster brother that he is. What an incredible example of how his heart has been shaped through our foster care journey together....

"I can share my mommy with you."

That says it all.
