BUT it is also a time when I see so clearly how God is working.
That doesn't make it any less hard.
It is still heart-breaking to hear my son cry out desperately for his mommy to be with him.
It is still devastating to watch as he grieves- knowing that no matter what happens...there is going to be deep loss.
BUT when I see them together...when I see the changes...the proud look in her eyes...the openness that was not there over a year ago...THAT is when I see so clearly how God is working.
And so we persevere. Tears are wiped and kisses and hugs are increased. Night terrors are soothed and we continue this journey by faith, knowing it is not meant to be easy...knowing that sometimes things need to be hard in order for us to really see how God is at work.
