Magic Veggies & 3 Year Olds

I must write about this because it works. I remember using this same strategy to get Z to eat her veggies when she was about Little D's age.

Tonight, Little D shared, "I like broccoli."

Then, in typical three year old fashion, he promptly stated, "I DON'T like broccoli. I don't want to eat it."

I'm not one to get into debates with young children because they are pointless. Little D's strong opinions change back and forth so often I knew that if I waited it out, chances are he might like broccoli again in a few minutes.

Anyway, I remembered this 'Magic Veggie' strategy from long ago and decided to use it tonight.

Me: "Little D, I wonder if you can do magic for us and make your broccoli DISAPPEAR! Boys, guess what?? Little D is going to show us magic. Ready? Abracadabra.....poof!"

The broccoli goes in his mouth and we all act amazed by the fact that his fork is clean.

He finished his broccoli and even asked for more!

Amazing, isn't it? Between that and the "How many chews?" strategy, we are set for a little while.

Here are some pictures of the little guy's start to homeschooling.

Theme: Camping
Book: Curious George Goes Camping

We introduced sleeping bag and lantern into Little D's vocabulary and let him have fun with the real things. The big boys enjoyed it just as much as he did:).

Believe it or not, I still had the picture schedule I used for David and Anthony back in the day. Here is the little guy putting the pictures in order.

Mater's Mouth Time: Little D LOVES Mater and Lightening McQueen so it was natural that Mater would be teaching us about different sounds during Mouth Time. We started with /m/ and took a picture of ourselves so we could see how our lips formed a straight line while making that sound. Then came the search for other words that start with the /m/ sound. He is still getting the hang of that, but is definitely sold on 'Mater's Mouth Time.'

Ok, that is all for now. I'm not sure how much school we will accomplish this week, but am aiming for at least one full day:). We'll see!
