Our last hours together were so special. Lee, the boys, and I held hands and prayed for sweet Little D and his new family. The little guy walked over to us, sat down, held our hands and then leaned forward to give Lee a huge hug.
I walked with them to the car and said goodbye to him while he was in his car seat. "I love you," I told him. "I love you," he responded.
I returned to the house and it felt so empty. It still does.
This is a picture of the three boys holding their animal blankets. We have created a tradition of buying matching stuffed animals for the boys to hold when they are missing that particular child.
Here is a verse and some words of encouragement that have been particularly helpful. I share them in case they might minister to others and so that I can come back to this post and be reminded of them in the future.
"We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf" Hebrews 6:19
"I can only imagine the 'hole' that you feel with little D gone now. That hole is not there to hurt, but to make more room for Jesus and loving others. He takes us through such joy and pain to strengthen us and to accomplish His promises (like sanctifying us) to us."
