Anyway, since we are homeschooling (which is still awesome by the way...never would have guessed that in a million years!), we've been able to go on plenty of field trips!
We've done three so far:
1) Farm - We had just finished reading Charlotte's Web so this trip was perfect timing. He took pictures of the animals and created his own book about the farm with pictures and text. It was fun to see him try to include commas and even quotation marks:).
- For the little guy, we read an Old MacDonald book and sang the song many many times. We packed a bag of plastic animals for us to take out and match with the animals we saw at the farm. It was really cool to see him pick up new vocabulary after our trip - he can now identify and name goat, cow, horse, and pig.
2) Pumpkin Patch - We decided to use this as an extension activity for math. He brought his ruler, measured the longest and shortest pumpkin, and documented his results in his notebook.
- With the little guy, I reinforced basic size concepts (big/little), texture (smooth/bumpy/rough), and simply labeling a pumpkin as "pumpkin" rather than "apple" :).
3) Apple Picking - We didn't get to it today, but Anthony is learning fractions in math so we are going to use the apples to demonstrate fractions. He'll also create another book and I'm thinking that stamping with apples is a must for both Anthony and Little D:).
- Before our trip, we watched a video about apple picking and then drew pictures of an apple - labeling the parts (skin, stem, seeds). Tomorrow we'll be cutting one up together to check out all the parts. While were were at the orchard, the little man was starting to say "apple tree" and "up so high" because all of the apples were at the top of the trees!
