Deep Breath

Have you ever had days where you feel like you are running a marathon?

I remember Anthony's first year as a part of our family...it was the norm to have at least 2-3 appointments a day. It was before I started using iCal and by some miracle, I would always figure out when I double-booked appointments or be reminded at the last minute about some visit right after school.

Things have settled down since then and I do my very best to keep our lives as simple as possible. That isn't easy to do with therapy appointments three days a week, regular appointments with the pediatrician, and soon appointments with the child psychiatrist....but I try.

Hopefully next school year will be easier without the commute into DC every day:). Maybe the boys will pick up normal extracurricular activities like soccer or basketball!

Anyway, this afternoon felt like a marathon to me. Here's what it looked like:

2:45pm- Audiologist checked David's ears (he woke up last night crying that it hurt)...turns out that he has a horrible ear infection

2:50pm - Rush boys out of school while calling the pediatrician and asking if he can call in a prescription (we have an appointment for Anthony tomorrow afternoon anyway and he can check him them)

2:55pm - Start driving to Anthony's therapy appointment and call Lee to ask if he can give pharmacy number to pediatrician so he can call it in

3:35pm - Swing by CVS to get pain relieving medicine for David because he is visibly distressed and in pain. Give him the medicine while leaving the store...

3:45pm - Make it to Anthony's appointment right on time

4:45pm - Leave appointment and start driving...trying to problem solve how to get kids dinner, pick up antibiotics, and still have enough time for homework, showers, and special play time.

5:15pm - Decide on Chick-fil-a drive through

5:30pm - Park and eat in the parking lot by CVS

5:45pm - Stand in long line to pick up antibiotics and David says he has to go to the bathroom. It's an emergency

5:47pm - Find the CVS bathroom, but decide against it...YUCK!! Ask if David can hold it, he says 'maybe.' We stand in line a little longer and he says 'no.'

5:50pm - Use the bathroom at the restaurant next to CVS

6:00pm - Get back in line at CVS. Boys start asking questions about the leg and neck braces on the shelves. I'm secretly thankful that we aren't waiting in the line with the feminine hygiene products like last time...

6:15pm - Finally get to the cash register and are told his medication isn't ready yet. Wait 5 more minutes.

6:20pm - After entertaining them by allowing them to watch me get my blood pressure checked a couple of times, we get back in line. They check us out and then send us to wait while they mix the medicine. Seriously?

6:30pm - Made it home. Homework, medicine, showers...special play time was sacrificed (ugh!)

7:30pm - In bed and asleep. The boys - not me obviously:). I'm here taking deep breaths and feeling thankful that our day is done!
