Tonight was a late night for us. Lee and I had a car seat training at social services and the boys came along. It started at their bedtime. They handled it pretty well and we are now educated about how to keep our kids safe in the car:).
Upon arriving at home, (A) looked up at me and said, "I'm feeling a little bit sad because I don't want to leave you and go live with my mommy."
I thought you all might like to have a little glimpse into the conversation the boys had tonight about this:
(A): "I just don't want to go. I want to stay with my big brother. He takes care of me. Will you call me all the time?"
David: "(A), I am going to miss you too, but I love you and do you remember that people who love each other are connected by an invisible string? (If you have never read it, The Invisible String by Patrice Karst is wonderful) And our string can be really long so it is like I will never leave you and I love you so much and God loves you too."
(A): [crying] "I'm still sad."
[Hugging each other on the couch]
David: "(A), remember it is up to the judge to decide if you will go with your mommy or stay with us. And I can come visit you. I have a lot of cool toys do you want to take one?"
(A): "I want my trucks."
David: "Yeah, your trucks are cool. Those are yours so you can take all of those. [picks up his treasure chest]. Here (A), you can have some of my treasure too."
(A): "Thank you" [picking out a ring]
Then we prayed together and David said the sweetest prayer about "comforting (A)'s heart like a mommy bird comforts her eggs."
Yes, I cried a little.
Anyway, just thought you all might like a little glimpse into how the boys are processing our potential loss.
I am so incredibly proud of them and know that tonight's conversation was a HUGE answer to prayer. Thank you all for praying for us!!
