Field Trips

While at school, field trips were difficult for Anthony. I think it was likely due to the mixture of excitement and change of routine. Who knows? As long as I was able to join them, he was able to hold it together. There were many times we had to opt out of a field trip because I couldn't be there and experience had taught us that the outcome just wasn't worth the risk.

Anyway, things are obviously different now doing school at home and Anthony is catching up on all those field trips he missed:). These past two weeks have been full of exciting experiences for my young man. I sure do wish I had pictures of each one to share, but I have been slacking and actually can't even find our camera!

Last Friday, we visited a local fire station with our good friends and field-trip buddies.

Best. Field Trip. Ever.

They gave us a tour that lasted close to an hour. Anthony had read books about fire fighting and fire safety so he had a ton of questions and comments. While exploring the fire engine and then the ambulance, the alarm sounded - there was an emergency! So the kids actually got to see all of the fire fighters gear up and leave the station right as our tour was ending.

Then this Monday, Anthony went to a full day Animal Vet Camp. I wasn't with him for that...I think he did alright. They fed, weighed, and measured snakes, turtles, and rabbits.

Today, we visited the National Museum of Health and Medicine. So fun and so very interesting. It isn't every day you get to see a real brain with the spinal cord attached....or touch a real lung...or see the skeletal growth progression of a baby in utero to a five year old. Again, Anthony was full of questions and comments. Once his brain gets going, he has a hard time slowing it down. We are working on how to appropriately handle frustration when his questions are not answered to his satisfaction.

Anyway, it has been a fun and very full week. Here are pictures of Anthony with his 'body' vest and the other kids figuring out where all of his organs belong:).
